I started my 30-day “challenge” of waking up at 6AM every morning (weekends included) to work on creative stuff. I might write, read, code or work on a side project. But I will always try to write for at least 5 minutes in order to get the juices flowing.
Last night after finishing up some work, I did some browsing on twitter and came across a post some people I follow had liked. I saw the name and thought to myself, "Is this guy Mike Posner, the singer?". I was very curious what he was up to.
I then proceeded to view his profile to find more about what he's currently doing. In the past few years it seems Mike has been busy doing climbs, running across North America, and other interesting stuff. Mike is experimenting with the world out there.
It's an inspiration to see people leave or stop doing what they "ought to be doing" to pursue things of pure interest to them.
Although I do run trails and surf as often as possible, sometimes we need to go to the extremes to find ourselves, like Mike did. Going on a 6-month long run is something that appeals to me in every sense.
I did something similar in 2017 when I took off for 6 months to travel around Southeast Asia. It was something I wanted to just do. A genuine interest in discovering new places, meeting new people, and getting to know myself. It was the most enriching experience of my life.
Like Mike, I've also had something in mind about running as well. But the local version of that. Running through the island (Puerto Rico where I currently live), visiting different cities, staying at random people's houses who'd like to host me, and really understand where I come from.
Perhaps sometime this year, or the next, I embark on a similar journey. It'll be shorter than Mike's though. But equally as important to me.
ps: this is my first time using Ghost.org as my blogging platform. I was using tumblr before, and although I love tumblr, it just wasn't cutting it in terms of writing tools anymore. Ghost seems really good so far. I might change the template soon.
